Zemic offers a specific range of load cell indicators and load cell weight transmitters for indicating weights and transmitting the mV/V signals from load cells.

A transmitter converts the analog signal into a weight or a force and passes it on to an operating system, such as PLC or computer.

You can find our Top-Sensors Transmitters and related accessories on this page.

Weight transmitters for load cells

We offer a wide range of weight transmitters under our own Top-Sensors brand.

These load cell weight transmitters are available with various protocols and options. Depending on the model you can connect directly 1, 4 or even 8 load cells to the device. A weight transmitter provides excitation voltage which is needed for a load cell or load cells (the input). Weight transmitters convert the analog weight signal (in general 2 or 3 mV/V at full scale) into a 4-20mA output, 0-10V output, 0-5V output signal. A digital weight output via RS485 is also possible. Optionally we also offer communication by fieldbusses like Profinet, Profibus, CanOpen, Devicenet, Ethernet, ASCII protocol etc. The main advantage of the multichannel transmitters are the individual setpoints per channel.

All of our Top-Sensors weight transmitters:

  • are fitted with an indication display (weight indicator transmitters). The advantage is that you can read out the weight at the location of the application. This is a visual control.
  • are able to send a sensor signal to a PLC or PC.
  • have the ability to electrically calibrate the loadcells.
  • are suitable for back panel mounting on Omega/DIN rail.

Some of our transmitters have an OIML approval.

Zemic can also supply a transmitter which is IP67 rated, by making use of a matching housing (see note on accessories further down this page).

Zemic has also developed a specific weight indicator for our elevator weighing kits. This elevator indicator indicates when an elevator is loaded for 90%, determines if the elevator is overloaded and adjusts engine power to actual weight. The indicator also ensures that the elevator does not move when the weight is less than 15 kg (child detection).

For load control and dosing during handling processes the Top-Sensors transmitters are widely used in the process industry sector.

How does a weight transmitter work?

All load cells we offer at Zemic Europe, are based on the strain gauge principle. We focus on strain gauge load cells with analog and digital output signals. The strain gauges are located on the weakest part of the force sensor element. By putting force on the element, it will deflect on this exact spot. The deflection of the element will cause the strain gauge to be stretched or compressed.

Volts are sent through the strain gauge and millivolts (mV) come out of the sensor. As soon as the sensor is loaded, the millivolt signal changes. This is caused by the changing resistance.

Indicators and transmitters are able to convert this millivolt signal into a “value”:

  • Kilograms
  • Grams
  • Liters
  • Pounds
  • Etc.

Weight transmitter manual

On the product page of every transmitter you can find the specifications and more detailed product information, like:

  • Product datasheet
  • Protocol Manual
  • Instrument Manager Manual
  • Product installation and User manual
  • OIML approval
  • NTEP Certificate
  • Instrument Manager (software)

Why user our Instrument Manager?

The use of our Top-Sensors Instrument Manager gives you the following benefits:

  • Makes it easier to configure transmitters from the PC.
  • Speeds up the process to calibrate transmitters (OEMs)
  • Has the function to compare data
  • Easily adjust settings

Accessories for transmitters

On this page you also find the available accessories. We deliver housing boxes to hermetically seal the transmitter. These boxes protect the transmitter against dust and water, the degree of ingress protection is IP67.

In addition we deliver a USB converter cable, a plug pack and a Remote display. With the USB converter cable you can communicate with the transmitter by using the Top-Sensors instrument manager.

Recommendations for the proper use of weighing instruments

We have general guidelines for a proper use of our weighing instrumentation. Please find them listed below:

  • Keep away from heat sources and direct sunlight
  • Protect the instrument from rain (except special IP versions)
  • Do not wash with water jets (except special IP versions)
  • Do not dip in water
  • Do not spill liquid on the instrument
  • Do not use solvents to clean the instrument
  • Do not install in areas subject to explosion hazard (except special ATEX versions)
