Weighing indicators are commonly found in the classic weighing industry. Most models are available in desk stand and panel mount versions. In general you could state that indicators indicate the weight value in grammes, kilogrammes, tons, pounds and newton on a graphic or led display.

Weight transmitters are used in production areas which can be found mainly in the process industry. These weight devices are connected with PLC's, PC’s or other transmitters.

Indicators and transmitters read out the signal from the load cell(s). The difference between an indicator and transmitter is what they do with the signal. An indicator converts the signal into a weight or a force. A transmitter not only converts the signal but also passes it on to an operating system, such as PLC or computer.

Nowadays electronics such as transmitters and indicators are available with many options. So now we see more similarities between them. Zemic offers a specific range of indicators and transmitters for indicating weights and transmitting the mV/V signals from load cells.

Indicators are available with many options. Besides full dosing and mixing programmes, also optional plugins are available to convert the signals in 4-20mA, 0-10V etc. Zemic Europe offers a range of indicators with the most basic functions to build up a scale from the brands Yaohua and the R320 range of Rinstrum.

Zemic has also developed a specific weight indicator for elevator weighing kits, which indicates when an elevator is loaded for 90%, determines if the elevator is overloaded and adjusts engine power to actual weight. The indicator also ensures that the elevator does not move when the weight is less than 15 kg.

Transmitters also have more and more possibilities. Zemic Europe decided to offer a wide range of weight transmitters under their own Top-Sensors brand. All Top-Sensors transmitters are fitted with a display. The advantage is that you can read out the weight at the location of the application. This is a visual control. Top-Sensor transmitters have the ability to electrically calibrate the loadcells. In addition the transmitters are able to send a sensor signal to a PLC or PC.

The Top-Sensors are suitable to connect 1, 4 or even 8 loadcells directly to the device. For some transmitters the loadcells can be read individually. A weight transmitter provides excitation voltage which is needed for a loadcell or load cells (the input). Weight transmitters convert the weight signal (in general 2 or 3 mV/V at full scale) into a 4-20mA output, 0-10V output, 0-5V output or communicates by fieldbus like Profinet, Profibus, CanOpen, Devicenet, Ethernet etc.
